Karedopeta, or Nut Cake

Following our Greek theme,we'll make a family favorite dessert, namely Karedopeta, or Nut Cake-this cake is a real good "keeper",that is, is you can't keep your hands off of it!

 syrup
3 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 cup honey
1 cinnamon stick or 1/2 t. cinnamon
1 slice lemon
1/4 cup rum (optional)

combine above ingredients in a saucepan, boil for 10 minutes and
set aside to cool.  Make the batter-

batter
1/2 Lb. softened butter
i cup sugar
6 eggs
1 cup flour
1 cup farina
2 heaping teas. baking powder
1/2 teas. salt
1 teas. cinnamon
1 teas. grated orange peel
1 cup chopped walnuts
Cream butter and sugar until light; add eggs, one at a time,
beating constantly; add flour, farina, baking powder, cinnamon, salt,
orange peel and beat well; add walnuts .  Pour mixture into a 9x13
inch buttered pan and bake at 350 (180 C) for 30 minutes.  Pour cooled
syrup over the cake and cut into diamond shapes when cool.     I often
make half of this recipe, using a round pie plate or a 8x8  pan.
Enjoy!!!!
